Hannah Hilton. Osteopath
Osteopath ideally located for clients from Warrington, Northwich, Lymm & Cheshire.
What to expect on your first treatment
- An Osteopathy session usually last for about 45 minutes on your initial assessment, and treatment sessions are usually for 30 minutes.
- If you are either a young patient or extremely nervous then you are more than welcome to have someone accompany you during your assessment and any subsequent treatment.
- To begin with, the Osteopath will undergo an initial assessment with you. You will be asked some questions about yourself. The therapist will need to know about your health, past and present, and you will be asked more detailed questions about your complaint, medical history (including operations and illnesses), whether you are taking any medication and about any changes in your general health. Although some questions may seem unnecessary, this information helps the osteopath to make a considered diagnosis and a formulate suitable treatment plan for you. If the therapist does not think you will benefit from treatment they will explain this to you.
- The practitioner will also advise you as the likely length of treatments required, and if possible a prognosis for your conditions.
- It is advisable to wear comfortable clothing as you will be requested to undress to your underwear. The reason for this is because it is very important that the Osteopath can access not only the area that is causing your pain, but other areas which may relate to the cause of the condition. You may be asked to perform some simple movements for the Osteopath in order for him to better understand and assess your situation. The Osteopath may also, if he feels it appropriate, suggest we carry out other tests such as blood pressure, reflexes, joint mobility and muscle strength. Further examination will normally be conducted whilst you lie on the examination couch.
- If at any time you feel uncomfortable or unwell, please do not hesitate to ask the osteopath to suspend the treatment. You can also always ask the osteopath to explain anything they say or do at any time during your appointment.
- After treatment, advice may be given to you to support the treatment and help you to be more comfortable.
- If you have any questions before you visit the clinic please do not hesitate to telephone the practice.
